How To Succeed In Business Whether you are selling online or offline, success in business comes down to one thing, relationships. You cannot underestimate the power of relationships when entering into business. They will be the foundation on which your business will thrive or dive. This is so very true in the online world also. When you see all the spam going around the internet at the moment, if you don’t have a relationship built up with your prospective customer, it will be virtually impossible to complete a sale, period. You might then ask, how does one develop a relationship?. Not easy and you may have to change your personality to achieve this. The most important factor one must have in keeping relationships is putting trust in the buyer, being able to convey to the buyer that the seller will do almost anything to help the buyer in whatever problems they may have. You see, if you can illustrate that you are on the same team as the buyer, you have won already. Sales are changing. Gone are the days of the stereotypical sales man where all he cares about is the quick buck. That’s fine for today but what about tomorrow? The sales man must be always there for the buyer, help him, educate him, be his friend and above all be there for him. Relationship selling is one of the most powerful weapons that you can have in you closet in the modern business world, be it online or offline. So that’s ok offline but how do we do it online?. Well in my opinion creating a relationship online is more difficult as the person on the other end of the e-mail does not know you or trust you. You could be one of the other crooks that are trying to con him. Yes this is so; therefore you have to stand out from the crowd by again helping them, answering their phone calls, following up etc. It can be very difficult creating relationships online. Personally I know for a fact that up to 80% of my follow up e-mails are never opened because my contact lists do not know me or trust me. This is why you must consistently contact these people to illustrate that you are truthful and are here to help them. Keep knocking on the door and when someone raises their head, be there for them. I also run an offline business where I sell design / sell heating systems. I work for myself and have a limited number of customers. This is how I like this as I’m able to provide enough attention to each one to be able to provide a good service (i.e, maintain the relationship). In my business career relationships is everything.
